Thursday Thoughts

The memorial service was today. I worked this morning - atteneded one meeting - then took Mental Health time for the afternoon. The church was packed. We had the fellowship hall curtain opened up for overflow and it was about 1/2 full. In the short time he was in our area, J seems to have been a well respected young man.

Lots of prayers held up his wife and their families. She was a rock - ministering to those who went through the receiving line almost more than we were ministering to her. God gives great strength in times of need. That was a blessing to all of us.

Went to Writers Group tonight - even though I was feeling a bit down and weepy. Chose not to read a poem I had written today called the Unanswerable Question, although one member asked to read it afterwards and we had a nice conversation about things in her family that were similar to J. Very nice of her to reach out to me like that.

Telling quite well how much I needed to go tonight, we all got a fit of the giggles over the least little thing. There seemed to be hidden meanings behind the writings of a couple of people and several of us took them entirely TOO literally (and, may I add - with a hint of dirty minds) - we laughed so hard and loudly that someone came up and closed the doors of the room we were in. After all, it WAS a library. Shhhhhhhh

snork!

Lessa called me this afternoon and asked if I had ever heard of the Red Hat Society. Well, yes I have. She thinks I should check into it. And, it does sound like fun. But I am not quite ready, I don't think, to join such a group. Oh, I wear my red and purple with pride - I just have other things that take me away from the home right now and I don't want to add to them. Maybe when I get old I will think about it again - you know - when I am (shudder) sixty or so. heh

So, I am out of here shortly - gotta hit the rack. My day off tomorrow, but a friend is undergoing surgery and I am going to go and sit with her before she goes in.

Hi BaBaMoosie.....I strolled thru that Red Hat Society thingie. I am probably wrong (no surprise there), but it sounds pretty exclusive to me. There are five pages of chapters listed for my urban area, including one in my own suburb. But that one states "Membership is closed at this time".

Welllll, excuuuuse ME. haha

Ummmm, I don't think I would join anyway. ;)

My best friend's mom joined in Bakersfield, Lorraine - to an open chapter, and they are a HOOT! Not exclusive at all and out to have a lot of fun with aging (*ahem*) properly. (You know - with FUN! Live is not an event meant to have you arriving at the finish line in perfect condition and sedately - but WHIPPING and SLIDING and SKIDDING in and hopping out of your vehicle with a look and scream "MAN! what a RIDE!" - totally misquoted, but ya get the idea. *chuckles*) I think that the national page is somewhat... more serious in tone? then the chapter pages I looked through. They're not non-profit, so I guess a bit of that is to be expected (gotta pimp for fundage and all)...

Naturally, it's not for everyone, but as serious as the Gramma Moosie tries to be sometimes? i KNOW she's got just enough silliness to really enjoy it when she does join. *chuckles* Perhaps even silliness in abundance if it's a group of the right kindsa women.

Yannow. Old. like her. *RUNS!* I meant young at heart! really! honest! ACK! DON'T HURT ME! *scrambles outa here*

You have to be 55 to wear the red hat... if you join before you turn 55 I think you have to wear a purple one or somethinng ...

THey have a chapter here on the island and they have a ball everywhere they go.

I think Phyllis has thought about joining too.

I'd never heard of it until just now, but it does sound like fun! Of course, I'm still too young to join... but you never know!

actually you only have to be 50 to join - before that you may only wear pink hats and lavender clothing (instead of red hats and purple clothing). Yeah, sounds like fun . . . but then I am already having fun. ;-) I mean, how often do you get the library doors shut on you for having too much rowdy fun? heh
