Happy 2004!
It’s a new day and a new year. I am not one to make resolutions, really. They are just so easy to make and even more easy to break. So, I usually save myself the trouble.
This year, however, I discovered Marn’s 500 Miles to Nowhere challenge. Now, if you have ever read Marn (eh) you will understand that a challenge from her is like . . . well, you just can’t resist. Or maybe I am the only one who cannot resist.
This is year number two for the 500 Miles to Nowhere challenge – the goal is to just get up and move in some way. Marn decided last year that she had to do something to get out of the rut most of us 50 somethings find ourselves stuck in. So, thinking ANY amount of movement was a good thing, her challenge was born.
The Posse was formed and raring to go. Most of them made their goals last year – and even those who did not make goal, well, they accomplished much by at least moving around.
As I am already taking part in the hospital’s 10,000 Step Program I have set a mixture of goals for myself. The first is to walk those 700+ miles and the second is to add another 1,000,000 steps by pedometer. Am I a glutton for punishment or what??? There’s a button over there to the left – I will add my stats as I head toward the goal. Hey, we’ve got a whole year, right? Right.
And, while losing weight was NOT my main objective (really) to starting the 10,000 Step Program in September, I am pleased to note that losing weight has been a nice side effect. Yesterday was weigh-in day for December . . . and . . . . the total loss since beginning is now . . . 20 pounds!! Yup, woo-hoo! Happy, happy, joy, joy, moose dancing around the room. It’s a wonderful feeling. As is having daughter’s midwife (partner to her OB) tell me that she didn’t recognize me because of the weight loss. Heh. (of course, it has been a bit over 50 pounds ago that she has seen me)
So, the challenge is to keep it off – and to keep on losing it.

And, that's all the news that's fit to be the news from Kenai, Alaska's PurpleMoose today. I trust your new year has started off in grand fashion and that there are not too many self-inflicted
hangovers injuries out there tonight.
