orange aprons

Hubby Moose and I made our first ever visit to a Home Depot tonight. Yes, I know, it is sad. After all, the store opened (in an old K-Mart building) on December 17th. We just never had the oomph to go see.

Tonight, while we really had no oomph in our step, we did at least have the desire to get out for a walkabout and the Orange Box Store was our chosen destination.

They have a LOT of stuff in there - a lot of stuff I wouldn't mind having - but a lot of stuff that I have absolutely NO IDEA of how to accomplish. But, they also have BOOKS!!! How-to books on just about anything your little heart could desire. Yup, they have those . . . and . . .

they have FRIENDLY people who are just waiting to help you find what you need, and find the ways to accomplish the things that you need/want/lust after. And, some of the stuff they will even INSTALL for you. Wow!

So, what did we buy? A couple of sponges for the hubby at work - and a mat for him to stand on by the printing presses at work - and, for me . . . drain cleaner.

The last of the big spenders we are. How romantic, huh? Hey, we do what we can do.

Walking among the aisles chock full of bright and shiny new sinks and toilets and shower/tub combos and flooring and . . . and . . . and . . . well, it got us to talking about what needs to be done on our house. Sigh! A little bit of everything. Which means it will be awhile before any of it gets done. And, that is okay, too.

After all, we have a roof over our heads and the house is warm and cozy. Who cares if it is 25 years old and the center is sagging a bit and the floors need to be tightened and the carpeting replaced and the bathroom totally stripped and redone? I ask you, who cares?

Well, I do for one - but all of that takes money.

And, frankly, Hawaii is more important to me this year. ;-)) And, we have now been confirmed on the interisland portion of the trip. Yay! We had to use every mile we had accumulated . . . 100,000 miles. So, I guess you could say that this trip is costing us $100,000 for airfare.

Oh, well. It's just miles. And, I thank the Lord that we have them. Hubby Moose buys paper for the print shop on the airlines card - that's how they accumulate so nicely. It has taken about 3 years, though, to accumulate that many. So, the next major trip will come in another 3 years or so. ;-))

Anyway - I guess that's enough rambling for tonight. May your dreams be orange . . . someone who reads this page knows exactly what I mean. (hi there CNL!)

They say that Home Depot is looking to open in our town!! WHo-HOO!!! can't wait. the closest one is 75 miles away, and off Island!

I had a devil of a time getting to your site this morning. Does it go off-line in bad weather? I know our cable on Adak did everytime the wind blew and the snow flew.

I was working for the Military, not in it, but I got orders there just the same as the Navy did.
Interesting place those Aleutians!!!

not sure, MaryLou, about the site being down. Sorry you had trouble getting here. We are in the middle of another deep freeze, but that shouldn't affect the site as it is hosted out of Alaska.

I've not been to the Aleutians, but have heard many stories. ;-))

I think Home DEPOT... IS HUGE> can you believe that he celings were really that high in the building. It was neat to walk through when I did. having a problem shoping there though. you know why I am sure. But I will get there .... I alos noticed that he cleaning suplys were MUCH MORE expensive than going to 3 bears. so I will stick to there for now.

Love you

So. Your not a HD virgin anymore? Yeah!! I'm a seasoned vet, so if you have questions just ask.

Do they have a garden center yet? (prolly not) or those checkout stations where you can zip-zip through them using your ATM or Visa card. Yep! You do it all yourself! If and when they do have either of those, you'll die and go to heaven. It's wonderful.

Hey, Barbara: did you get a picture for CNL's HD homage site?

Posted by: dan at January 14, 2004 09:41 PM

ack! no, Dan. I kept meaning to get one when they were rebuilding the K-Mart store, but never did. I should really get one for CNL, huh?

We have one within walking distance. I got a bolt for my motorcycle from there once, and chatted to a BMW rider in the parking lot. It's a nice adventure, but I get bored in the plumbing department. I just can't get excited about tubes and faucets, but the books and house plans are very neat. :-)
